An Electrical connector is a part that joins together two or more electrical circuits. The electrical connection can be permanent, semi-permanent or temporary. An example of a permanent connection is the fuse box in your house. It is connected to the high power lines on your street and is not something you would disconnect and reconnect many times.
An example of a semi-permanent electrical connector is the connection from the motherboard to the screen inside your cellular telephone or smart phone. The connection will only be altered if you break the screen in your phone and have to replace it. In this case the electrical connector connects multiple electrical circuits between the motherboard and the screen. A sample of this is on our wire connectors page.
Temporary electrical connectors are very common. Chances are you have used more than one in the last eight hours. They come in all shapes and sizes such as a banana plug connector or a USB connector. Their main attributes should be durability as in the number of connection cycles and ease of use. For example a USB connector is very easy to plug and unplug however you would not want to only be able to connect and disconnect it 100 times, that would be very unpractical.
Additionally a temporary electrical connector can have a retaining system that is harder to disconnect such as a screw down type, like on the back of your computer where your video cable connects to you video card, you need to loosed two screws before you can disconnect it.
